How it works.
- Get photos. You've got a camera, right? Go use it! Take pictures that fit into any of the eight chapters. Or if you've already got photos that fit into the eight chapters, use those instead. Either way, just secure some photos that you want to be a part of the project.
- Upload. Head over to the upload page, take a quick glance at the photo guidelines, then click the browse button to locate the image file on your computer. Once you've found it, click the upload button and wait. Now be sure not to close the window while your photo is uploading. Once you upload your first photo, you'll receive a discount code worth $5 off the book, and all your submissions are eligible for prizes. If you're a Flickr member, you can simply copy over your Flickr images.
- Provide info. We only require that you give us a caption for your photo, but we'd sure like to know more about it. Please be as detailed as you can. Photos with better captions are more likely to get votes, and more likely to please our editors.
- Promote that puppy! We provide a really easy way for you to get some quick votes for your photo. Simply fill out the promotion form and your friends and family will be notified about your submissions. Be sure to check the news page frequently to see if we're running any challenges. Entering your photo in a challenge opens it up to more exposure. Be sure to check your user profile page to see each photos' recent activity.
- Vote. Jump right in at start voting on Capture Cincinnati photos (including your own). When you place a vote for a photo, you'll be taken to a random photo within that chapter (until you vote on all photos in that chapter's vote flow) then you'll be taken to a different chapter). Try to vote consistently, and remember that we're asking if the photo fits in a particular chapter, not just whether or not the photo is good. In the end, just say "I dig it" for photos you like, and "Nix it" for photos you're not sure about. You only get one vote per photo, and it can't be changed, so vote carefully.
- Hurry. In the top right corner of the webpage, you'll find a countdown. A countdown to what? you might ask. It's a countdown to when submissions will no longer be accepted. Obviously, submitting photos early on means your photo will have a higher chance to be seen, and will likely accumulate more votes, but when that counter says zero, no more submissions will be accepted. Second, it's when the discount for contributors expires. Third, it's when we add up all the votes, views, and so on, put them into a complicated algorithm, then see which photos are the best as decided by you.
- Production. How many books have you written? If you're a contributing or voting member of this project, you can add this book to your resume“. Sure, we may be the ones laying out, proofing, printing, and binding the book, but you're the source of much of the content, the initial editors (by your vote), and the most valuable part of this project. When we begin production, we will take a look at all of the photos you picked and put them aside to be included in the book. Then we'll hand all the photos over to our editors who will pick their favorites. Once it's all said and done, the book will be a good representation of photos you like, photos our editors like, and photos that define the best of Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
- Enjoy. The Capture Cincinnati book and DVD is a really exciting project because it's a combination of your best photos, our best photos, and a democracy-style editing system. With this new approach, the book will truly be the best of Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. We're excited to have you along for this journey. Be sure to get yourself listed on the People page by uploading a picture of yourself on your user profile page. Remember, the project submission deadline is 80 Days away, and this deadline also marks the end of special discounts so act now to secure the book for a cheaper price.
