Actually, we've got a lot of great prizes and a fun way to give them to you. First, we give away two prizes in each chapter as well as a prize for the photo that is chosen to grace the cover and a grand prize, so you've got a decent shot at prizes, regardless of what type of photos you submit. Here's how they work:
Highest Score. This one's as simple as it sounds. The photo that gets the highest score (so long as it meets the submission requirements) will be given this award. We'll be picking a different winner for the Editor's Choice award, but we think you're pretty smart too, so we want to reward the photo that people like the most. This is also one of the ways we figure out the grand prize.
Editors' Choice. This award goes to the photo our editors determine to be the best in a chapter. Sometimes it'll be a photo that fits the chapter so well that it stands out above the rest. Other times it could be a photo that is technically excellent. Keep in mind that our head editor has a real soft spot for cute stuff, so sometimes the winning photo might be a kitten with big eyes. That's actually a joke, but you get the idea. Our editors pour over submitted photos daily and are constantly thinking about which photo should be the "Editors' Choice."
Cover Shot. The cover shot is hand-picked by our editors. You get something when your shot makes the cover of the book... and we're not just talking about the ego boost. If you are the cover photographer, we'll give you $200 gift card. We also credit you as the photographer on the cover, so the exposure is pretty special!
Grand Prize. This is the big cheese, the real deal, the big kahuna. Not only is this photo one of the highest scoring in the project, but it is also loved by the editors. It's a combination of the "pick of the people" and the pick of our editors. Naturally, it's the grand prize winner! The grand prize is a $600 Amazon.com gift card. This prize is awarded to the photo that gets the highest score. So upload your photo, promote it, then get to dreamin' about all the cool things you could do with this gift card!
Remember, this photo contest is supposed to be fun so don't take these prizes too seriously. Also remember that each chapter will have two ways to win. With eight chapters, two chances to win in each, a cover winner and a grand prize winner, there's plenty of chances for you to win something. So jump in and get uploading.
