Note: Much of the information on this page pertains to the submission and voting phase of the Capture Cincinnati project. That phase has come to an end. However, please feel free to read up and see how the project came together.
We don't want to own your photo. Your photo is your photo, not ours. We just want to borrow it if you'll let us. When you upload a photo, you're letting us borrow it for a couple uses.
First, it will appear on the website and get mixed in with all the other photos. Your photo will be voted on by other users. Second, if your photo gets enough positive votes, or if the editors really like it, your photo may be published in the book. Now again, we don't claim to own your photo at all, so we'll give you full attribution (see below). Third, your photo may appear on the DVD that is shipped with the book. Everyone who submits a photo will get at least one of their photos onto the DVD (so long as it meets the photo requirements). Fourth, we may use your photo for promotion of the project. Again, if we do, we will attribute the photo to you.
Whenever we use your photo, we'll make it explicitly clear that you are the photographer. We've got our own photographers who are sensitive to this issue, so we know it's important. In the book, on the DVD, in promotion, and on the website, your photo will always be credited to you. In addition, we provide a way for you to promote your website, if you have one. Simply fill out the website line on your user profile page. Our plan is to include all photographers' names (and their websites) in the book.
By uploading a photo you are stating that the photo was taken by you, and you have the right to upload it. We can't publish photos without proper attribution, so don't upload a photo if you didn't take it. Doing so violates our Terms of Service and is likely to get you kicked off the site. We take copyright infringement very seriously. If you see a photo you suspect is violating our Terms of Service, please contact us.
