Mother and Child
As a mother holds her baby
Caressing and nurturing
The thoughts of a lifetime danced in her head.
“Oh little one you are my dream awakened,
Our soul and spirits consecrate.
I have brought you into this world,
A world of laughter and tears.
So very young to understand
The mysteries that lay before you,
A world that takes, as well as gives to you
Realities and imaginings of new paths.”
Gently she strokes the baby’s moist and tender scalp,
Rubbing her cheek against the soft unscarred skin.
She breathes in the essence of this newborn,
The scent will never fade.
“Little one,
There will be some cuts and bruises
Slight and to the heart,
Know I will always be with you
My love will never cease.
Dear God, protect this soul,
Give my guardian to look over this child
To cover and provide sanctuary from any life storms.”
As the child’s fingers released it’s tightly held grasp
The mother realizes that she cannot hold on forever,
That in life one must learn by doing.
“Dear child, I will walk with you till it is time to run,
Then you will find your path to travel
To color your landscape of time.
I will not always be there to lift you should you fall,
Though in your heart, I will, as God’s love will be,
Forever a unity so strong.”
As they both drift into a sleep
The warmth of the baby against the mother’s breast,
Their hearts beat unified as one.
Life races on.
But in this instance of caring, loving
A mother’s pride,
Time stood still.

Although it would be an honor to see this shot featured in the book this year I know that the competition is much too fierce and there are multiple photos that are much more deserving. I thank you all for your kind words and wish you all the best of luck...Adam
I would like to thank each and everyone of you who voted and supported me throughout this contest. Your humerous remarks and genuine comments are greatly appreciated! Again I wish you all the best of luck and want to especially take the time to thank CiN Weekly, without you guys/gals none of this would have ever been possible. Once again, I thank you ALL... Adam
