Covington Police officer Chris Gangwish (right) and other members of the Covington Police Department jump into a pool of near-freezing water at the Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics at Newport on the Levee. More than 400 people took part in the event, which raises money for Special Olympics. Prior to the plunge, a costume contest, judged by special olympians was held inside Newport on the Levee. The costume contestants included Hawiian dancers, a Mardi Gras Penguin, a man in a Dick Cheney mask in full camo and an orange hunting vest and men in two-piece bathing suits.
